This is a scholarly though very readable account of the Persian Wars/Persian invasions of Greece (from Marathon to Plataea). I really appreciate the author's writing style and approach. This is a military history of the two Persian invasions of Greece, the first of which came to grief at Marathon, the second at Salamis and Plataia. The conflicts are largely examined in terms of the fifth century BC, avioding modern conceptions, and from the Persian as well as the Greek point of view.
